25 × 40 h × 52 weeks = $52,000.00One rate,
every pay period.
- Annual pay from an hourly rate = rate × hours per week × paid weeks, plus overtime hours × rate × multiplier × paid weeks.
- Paid weeks = 52 − unpaid days off ÷ workdays per week. Paid vacation and holidays stay inside the 52 weeks.
- Hourly rate = annual pay ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks). Full time is usually 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours.
- Per-paycheck amounts convert with 26 biweekly, 24 semimonthly or 12 monthly payments a year.
- All figures are gross pay before taxes and deductions.
How do you convert an hourly wage to a salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours worked in a week, then by the number of paid weeks in a year. At 40 hours and 52 weeks that is 2,080 hours, so $25 an hour is $25 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year. A quick rule of thumb: double the hourly rate and add three zeros ($25 → about $50,000), which undercounts by 4%.
How do you convert a salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the salary by the hours you are paid for in a year. $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 an hour. If you regularly work more than 40 hours for the same salary, your effective rate is lower: $60,000 for 50-hour weeks is $23.08 per hour worked.
Biweekly or twice a month?
Biweekly pay comes every two weeks, giving 26 paychecks in most years (27 in some, because a year is 52 weeks and one or two days). Semimonthly pay comes twice a month, giving exactly 24. The same $52,000 salary is $2,000 per biweekly check but $2,166.67 per semimonthly check.
Paid and unpaid time off
Paid vacation and holidays are already inside a 52-week year, so enter only unpaid days off. Ten unpaid days on a five-day week remove two paid weeks: $30 an hour drops from $62,400 to $60,000 a year. A salary you have been quoted already includes any paid time off, so unpaid days are not applied to it.

does not do.

- Overtime is entered as a weekly average at one multiplier; use the overtime calculator for a specific week under daily rules.
- It does not model bonuses, commissions, tips or shift differentials.
Common questions.
How much is $20 an hour a year?
$41,600 for 40 hours a week over 52 weeks (2,080 hours). At 37.5 hours a week it is $39,000.
How many working hours are in a year?
2,080 for a 40-hour week over 52 weeks. A calendar year has 260 to 262 weekdays (2,080 to 2,096 hours at 8 a day), which is also why some years have 27 biweekly paydays.
Is a salary or an hourly wage better?
It depends on hours. Non-exempt hourly employees are paid for every hour plus overtime; exempt salaried employees are not paid extra for long weeks, so compare at the hours you actually work.
How do I convert a monthly salary to an hourly rate?
Multiply by 12 for the yearly figure, then divide by the hours you work in a year. $4,500 a month at 37.5 hours a week is $54,000 ÷ 1,950 hours = $27.69 an hour.
